Class: Topical/antifungal
Action Increases cell membrane permeability in susceptible fungi.
Indications Treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), cutaneous candidiasis, tinea versicolor.
Contraindications Standard considerations.
Route/Dosage
Tinea Pedis, Tinea Cruris, Tinea Corporis and Tinea Versicolor
ADULTS & CHILDREN: Topical Apply sufficient quantity to cover affected areas once daily. Treat tinea versicolor, tinea cruris and tinea corporis for 2 wk and tinea pedis for 1 mo.
Cutaneous Candidiasis
ADULTS & CHILDREN: Topical Apply bid for 2 wk.

Adverse Reactions
DERM: Burning; itching; stinging; erythema.
Precautions
Pregnancy: Category C. Lactation: Undetermined.
PATIENT CARE CONSIDERATIONS
Administration/Storage
- Wash skin with soap and water and dry thoroughly prior to application.
- Cover treated area with sterile bandage if needed.
Assessment/Interventions
- Obtain patient history, including drug history and any known allergies.
- Assess condition of skin before beginning therapy and regularly throughout course of treatment. If burning, itching, stinging or erythema develops, notify physician.
Patient/Family Education
- Inform patient medication is for external use only.
- Teach patient to wash and dry skin before application.
- Teach patient and family name, desired action, technique of administration and potential side effects of medication.
- Advise patient to report signs of hypersensitivity such as rash, burning or redness.
- Instruct patient to use medication for length of treatment prescribed even if symptoms subside.
